UP , UP AND AWAY : A LOOK INTO TWA ’ S FLEET
BOEING 757
TWA got its first Boeing 757-200 on July 22 , 1996 . The airline operated 27 of the type , which helped replace the aging Boeing 727 fleet . TWA used them until 2001 , when the aircraft were transferred to American Airlines . To date , most of these aircraft remain active with Delta Air Lines .

BOEING 767
On December 5 , 1979 , TWA announced it was purchasing 10 Boeing 767s with an option for 10 more . Its first Boeing 767-200 in service flew on December 2 , 1982 , from Los Angeles to Washington Dulles . After a relaxation of the EROPS , later known as ETOPS , which allowed twin-engine aircraft to fly over oceans provided their routes did not take them more than 120 minutes from an airport , TWA operated the first 767 transatlantic passenger flight on February 1 , 1985 — Flight 810 from Boston to Paris .

BOEING 717
TWA ordered 50 717s in 1998 , with an option for 50 more . When American Airlines acquired TWA in 2001 , it initially planned to adhere to the 717 order . However , AA eventually canceled the as yet undelivered Boeing 717s and sold all of TWA ’ s 29 . To date , most of these aircraft remain active with Delta Air Lines .
