As this was a return flight , and taking into account that this was one of the days on which German tourists were going home , the flight was not merely fully booked but overbooked .
This is another reason for Lufthansa ’ s choice of the Boeing 747-400 for these flights . While not the biggest aircraft in the fleet , it is the one that can carry the largest number of Economy Class passengers per flight , a total of 272 . Palma is a destination that is much more popular with leisure travelers than business ones .

However , as this aircraft had been placed into storage between July 2020 and October 2021 — and despite the fact that it is not scheduled to be retired anytime soon — it was not included in the list of airplanes to be fitted with the brand-new Allegris cabin product .
Ultimately , it is not worth it for LH to make changes to an aircraft that is coming to the end of its operational life .

However , although the outdated cabin is acceptable , we feel the need to point out some of the pros and cons of the Business Class product . The cabin is very spacious and the large amount of natural light coming in from the outside makes the flight much more comfortable . However , the seat in front of us , with the in-flight entertainment and some storage compartments , was very far away ; with the seatbelt fastened , it was almost unreachable .
On the other hand , the service was excellent . Three crewmembers were assigned

Lufthansa does operate Airbus A380s , with their astonishing 371 Economy seats , but , at the time of our flight , these were still being reactivated and had not yet been reintroduced into commercial service . |

The aircraft operating this short service was D-ABVX , a 24-year-old Boeing 747-400 delivered to Lufthansa on December 22 , 1999 . It is one of the only eight such aircraft still operational with the airline , and usually flies long-haul from Frankfurt to Shanghai ( PVG ), Toronto ( YYZ ), or Chicago ( ORD ). |
