10 Loganair Saab 340B G-LGNC MSN318 Cockpit . Loganair acquired the plane in June 2000 .
Loganair took on most of its Embraer E135s and E145s , prompting serious questions about fleet maintenance costs and simplification . And Loganair was eager to expand both its passenger and freighter operations .
It decided to simplify the fleet to just four types : Embraer Jets , Islanders , Twin Otters , and the Saab replacements , ATR42 and 72s . Loganair saw the ATRs as a realistic next step , especially because of the aircraft ’ s crosswind and shortfield performance capabilities . Not long after acquiring the Embraers , Loganair phased out its five Dornier 328s , which it had taken over when buying Suckling Airways in 2012 .
The first ATR72 , a converted -500 series freighter registered as G-LMRZ , arrived in November 2019 . The first passenger ATR42s showed up in January and March

2020 ( G-LMRA and G-LMRB ). Soon , Loganair phased out its remaining three Saab 2000s , right before COVID shut down the aviation industry . In summer 2019 , Loganair used a Saab 340 wet-leased from Estonian carrier Nyxair ( ES-NSD ) to operate flights from the UK ’ s newest passenger terminal ,
Carlisle . It operated flights to London Southend , Belfast City , and Dublin , before everything halted in March 2020 .
