A few months after the demise of Cyprus Airways , investors from Europe and the United States established a new Cypriot airline , starting operations with a 34-passenger Saab 340B light passenger aircraft ( construction number 340B- 167 ) leased from Täby Air Maintenance AB . The aircraft received registration code 5B-DER under TUS Airways ’ s AOC ( Air Operator ’ s Certificate ) on May 29 , 2015 . On February 14 , 2016 , the airline operated its first flight , from Larnaca ( LCA ) to Tel Aviv and Haifa in Israel .
2 SE-ISG , the second Saab 340B to be leased by TUS Airways , landing at Larnaca airport on 30 October 2016 . It was operated by the airline between 25 March 2016 and 31 December 2016 .
3 SE-KXK , another of the three Saab 2000s that TUS Airways leased from Braathens Regional Airways . It was operated by TUS Airways between 11 August 2016 and 31 October 2017 .
On July 6 , 2016 , TUS Airways began operating a Saab 2000 , a stretched version of the Saab 340 . Thanks to more powerful Rolls-Royce AE 2100P turboprop engines , each producing 3,096kW ( 4,152shp ) power , the aircraft could carry 50 passengers a maximum distance of 2,869km ( 1,783 miles ). TUS dry-leased the aircraft ( SE-LTU , c / n 2000-062 ) from Braathens Regional Airways until October 27 , 2017 , when it returned it to its lessor . The
The Swedish twin-engine turboprop — equipped with a pair of General Electric CT7- 9B turboprop engines each producing 1,390kW ( 1,870shp ) thrust — had a cruise range of 870km ( 540miles ), enabling round-trip flights from Larnaca to Haifa and Tel Aviv without the need to refuel in Israel . That was an advantage because aviation fuel was cheaper in Cyprus .
On March 25 , 2016 , TUS Airways leased a second Saab 340B ( SE-ISG , c / n 340B-162 ) from Lipican Aer . The carrier kept it in use until December 21 , 2016 , when it returned it to its lessor . A few weeks later , on February 3 , 2017 , TUS returned 5B-DER to its lessor , too .
