To get to know the airline , we ventured into the heart of EVA Air ’ s operations — the flight training center . Located just outside Taipei Taoyuan International Airport ( TPE ), this hub of precision and expertise equipped with five simulators serves as a cocoon for both aspiring and seasoned Pilots .
Inside the center , we were struck by the emphasis on cleanliness and order ; this airline is committed to professionalism . And to new ideas ; simulators here have recording cameras that allow Pilots to dissect their actions and body language during emergencies and to refine their communication skills .

Chief Pilot Captain Richard Yeh , the custodian of this impeccable property , is a pro ’ s pro , a two-decade veteran with over 17,000 flying hours and the ability to command every Boeing aircraft in EVA ’ s fleet . Capt . Yeh explained how EVA Air ’ s training program has evolved .
“ Training is not just about mastering the aircraft ; it ’ s about creating an environment that fosters continuous improvement ,” he said . “ EVA Air has always been at the forefront of innovation in Pilot training . Our simulators are not just tools , but an extension of our commitment to safety and excellence .”
9 Starting in mid-2024 , EVA Air will add Premium Economy to the Business Class and regular Economy options now available on its 787 aircraft . Premium Economy is also expected to feature on the airline ’ s future A350-1000 fleet .
10 EVA Air offers non-stop service to Taipei , Taiwan , from several cities in North America , including Chicago , Houston , Los Angeles , New York , San Francisco , Seattle , Toronto and Vancouver .
Yeh said that EVA Air is adapting to new technologies , integrating advanced training methods , and ensuring that all Pilots remain at the pinnacle of their skills . “ In the aviation industry , complacency is not an option ,” he said . “ We invest in state-of-the-art technology , leverage virtual reality , and constantly update our training curriculum to align with the latest industry standards .”
Training plans are personalized , Yeh said , to ensure that each Pilot ’ s strengths and areas for improvement are addressed . “ Our goal is not just proficiency ; it ’ s mastery . We want our Pilots not just to fly the aircraft , but understand it intricately , ensuring the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency .”
