Our archive is located at the Flying Cloud Airport in the southwest corner of the Twin Cities metro area . Access for research purposes is by appointment only . At this site , we maintain a large and growing collection of staff newsletters , timetables , annual reports , inflight magazines , operational reference materials , staff training media , employee uniforms , signage and artwork , photography , service items , aircraft models , and much more . These materials have been contributed by former staff and retirees , their families , and private collectors — as NWA ’ s corporate records and holdings were transferred to Delta during the merger .
The NWAHC website — at www . northwestairlineshistory . org — is constantly expanding as we endeavor to digitize our archives . Explore nearly 100 years of history on our timeline , view dozens of aircraft photo galleries and route map collections , read through nearly 1,000 scanned timetables and over 100 safety cards , plus 14 years of back-issues of our quarterly journal , REFLECTIONS . Our online store , shop . northwestairlineshistory . org , offers hundreds of NWAHC exclusive design products featuring our heritage carriers and logos from the 1920s through the 2000s .

Established in 1958 , the Northwestern University Transportation Library supports the teaching and research of the University ’ s Transportation Center as well as Northwestern faculty and students across a range of diverse disciplines , and researchers from across the US and abroad . Our collections number over 600,000 items , making ours among the largest transportation research collections in existence .
Our collection encompasses materials on modes of transportation — aviation , railroads , motor vehicles , maritime , bicycle , pedestrian , and public transportation — with an emphasis on emerging technologies , engineering , logistics , regulatory affairs , land use , and social and economic impacts . The library also maintains a significant collection of historical and archival materials as well as one of the nation ’ s most complete collections of Environmental Impact Statements .

The Northwestern University Transportation Library is open to the public from Monday to Friday , 08:00 to 18:00 , and Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 . Reference assistance is available by appointment only ; appointments are also required to work with special collections materials .
