Timetables were an airline ’ s primary advertising tool , often used to introduce the carrier ’ s newest aircraft , as in these four examples . National was indeed the first airline with domestic jet service in the USA , borrowing a Pan Am 707 to operate between New York and Miami during the winter of 1958-59 .
9 Eastern introduced the first all quick-reference timetable in the USA with this March 1 , 1961 issue . A couple of years later , Eastern went back to printing schedules in columnar format , which gave customers more information .
10 11 Airlines also used their timetables to announce new service , as illustrated with Delta ’ s Feb . 1 , 1956 issue and Northwest ’ s Sept . 27 , 1959 schedule .
