Both Bonanza and West Coast picked the Douglas DC-9 as their jetliner of choice . Pacific ’ s management decided to hold out for the Boeing 737 , which was several years behind the DC-9 in development . As a stopgap measure , Pacific leased five Boeing 727-100s to operate while awaiting delivery of the six 737s it had ordered .
