Airport historian J . Drew Van Horne has created this chart of all airports served by Southwest Airways and Pacific Air Lines from the time of the company ’ s first flight ( December 1946 ) through the merger with West Coast Airlines and Bonanza Air Lines to form Air West ( April 1968 ).
Listed alongside each city is the three-letter IATA code for the airport served and the date on which scheduled service was inaugurated . The final column tells us when service was terminated or , as in most cases , if that airport continued to be served by Air West after the merger .
