AIRLINE REVIEW Widerøe
In the future , sustainable jets with capacities like that of the Dash 8-100 will probably be rolled out well before larger airliners . In a sharp departure from the older turboprops , these jets will likely feature entirely new propulsion systems .
In the meantime , Widerøe will keep investing in second-hand aircraft , reducing manufacturing emissions , and extending its fleet ’ s life . Over the years , the airline has acquired dozens of second-hand airliners from multiple suppliers . As explained during the MRO tour , Widerøe reduces emissions by extending the aircraft ’ s lifespan while still guaranteeing high safety standards . The airline lowers its impact daily by implementing advanced navigation tools and optimizing its fleet .
Widerøe , which is part of Embraer ’ s Energia advisory group , is eyeing sustainable aviation fuel ( SAF ), and expects to exceed the Norwegian requirement of a 20 % SAS blend by 2035 . At the 2022 Farnborough Airshow , Widerøe joined the board that is overseeing the development of aircraft that can carry up to 50 passengers while reducing — or cancelling — emissions . Widerøe is one of the most interesting airlines in the world . Thanks to its historic maintenance expertise , cabin crew , fleet , and network , the Norwegian airline ’ s future is looking as exciting as its previous 90 years of operations .
