announcements were too few and mostly in Italian . A bus took us to the aircraft , and we boarded from the rear door . This time , I had been assigned a middle seat at the rear of the cabin , in the three-abreast side . The window seat was occupied , so I could stretch far less than on the previous flight , but the cabin did seem cleaner and better maintained .
At the back of the cabin , the legroom was less generous . However , the seat still had a comfortable headrest , chargers , and amenities .
Before closing the doors , the cabin crew had to help several passengers who seemed to be

unsure as to where to store their belongings . This resulted in some disruption but , luckily , things did not get out of hand .
MILAN-AMSTERDAM
We taxied to the active runway for our northbound takeoff , where we were able to admire Milan ’ s skyline on the left and the Monza racetrack on the right . In a few days , the city would host the Italian Gran Prix , which would be won by the Ferrari driver and home favorite Charles Leclerc . Seeing the racetrack reminded me I could have bought tickets and stayed in Milan to attend the Formula One event . Ferrari ’ s victory made me further regret not having done so .

We climbed through a thick layer of clouds , which would remain under us for most of the flight . The Alps ’ snowy peaks occasionally pierced the cloud cover . The in-flight service started shortly after crossing the Alps ; however , it was too late for me again , and I decided to sleep through most of the flight .
I woke up above Rotterdam , and I was able to distinguish the city ’ s vast harbor area and skyscrapers . We flew over the beautiful city of Leiden , home to the oldest university in the Netherlands , before landing on AMS ’ s runway 06 , known as the Kaagbaan .
