Flight Path Museum was founded in 1995 as a nonprofit , community-based organization aimed at honoring aviation pioneers , recognizing the economic importance of aviation and aerospace to Southern California , and encouraging youth to pursue education and careers in aviation-related fields . The kickoff project was a series of sidewalk plaques in the LAX business district saluting aviation pioneers , organizations , and locations . This ‘ Flight Path ’ is the aviation equivalent of the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame .
The Flight Path Museum is housed on the LAX tarmac , in a building that once served as the MGM Grand Air terminal . Thousands of residents and visitors to Los Angeles have the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at commercial aviation on the tarmac , view historical and heritage exhibits , and partake in educational tours and programs , research facilities , and community events .
The Flight Path Museum and Learning Center is the only museum and research center with a primary emphasis on the contributions made by civil aviation to the history and development of Southern California .
The Flight Path Museum and Learning Center gallery of exhibits , which is filled with memories of aviation ’ s golden years , is located adjacent to the LAX airfield , where today ’ s aircraft and travelers arrive at and depart from the world ’ s busiest origin and destination airport . No other museum offers such a perspective on contemporary aircraft and aviation .
