WHAT ARE YOUR HOLDINGS ? DO YOU OPERATE A MUSEUM ? DO YOU MAINTAIN AN ARCHIVE ? The Museum of Flight ’ s is considered one of the best air and space museum collections in the world . It includes over 150 aircraft , over 25,000 small objects ( i . e ., anything smaller than an aircraft ), over 90,000 books and periodicals , over 18,000 aircraft manuals , and other technical documents .
In addition , the Museum of Flight Archives contains over 5,000 cu ft ( 140m 3 ) of paper , photographic , and audiovisual materials that document the evolution of manned flight , from the Wright Brothers to modern jet travel , to space exploration . We have millions of images , including photographic prints , negatives , slides , and transparencies . Our paperbased materials include maps , charts , drawings , blueprints , logbooks , diaries , manuscripts , research and technical documentation , correspondence , philately , and ephemera such as airline tickets and luggage tags . Audiovisual materials consist of oral history recordings , videos , and films .
ARE YOU OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ? WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS ? IS ACCESS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY ? The Museum of Flight ’ s publicly accessible Kenneth H Dahlberg Research Center comprises the archives , the Harl V Brackin Memorial Library , and a dedicated reading room . Our staff is ready and willing to assist aviation and aerospace researchers , including students from all levels , authors , teachers , historians , modelmakers , and more .
In-person research visits are available by appointment only , Monday through Friday , 08:00 to 17:00 . Remote research assistance is available for those who are unable to come to the Research Center in person . We provide one free hour of research assistance and are able to conduct further research for a fee .
