location , away from the bustling checkpoints , allowing them to make faster and more accurate decisions about which bags require further inspection and bag searches . Hopefully , this will prevent the build-up of queues that have become commonplace at Denver Airport .
By introducing automated screening lanes , CT technology , and remote screening , DEN will be following Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport ( IAH ), the first airport to do so . This new screening procedure , which IAH introduced in 2018
at Terminal D , has proved very successful in reducing screening and wait times .
PHASE 3
In January 2022 , Denver City Council approved Phase 3 . Work commenced at the end of 2022 . As part of this phase , a second security checkpoint is being built on the east side of the terminal ’ s Level 6 , where the balcony is being extended and a new class partition is being added . This new East checkpoint will be a replica of that on the west side , built in Phase 2 .
While ground on the East checkpoint has been broken , work is proceeding slowly and at night in order to minimize disruption to passengers while the West one is being built . “ We are in a walk , jog , run phase ,” Sheehan said . However , once the West checkpoint is completed , work pace to complete the East one will pick up .
During Phase 3 , all remaining airlines will have the new ticketing pods that United Airlines and Southwest Airlines received in Phase 1 . The 26-yearold baggage claim , curbside
