UP , UP AND AWAY : A LOOK INTO TWA ’ S FLEET
DOUGLAS DC-1
The Douglas DC-1 was the first aircraft produced by the Douglas Company and the basis for the Douglas DC-2 and DC-3 . Over half a year of testing , it performed over 200 test flights and set a record of crossing America in 13 hours and five minutes . TWA accepted the aircraft on September 5 , 1933 . The airline subsequently placed an order for 20 of what would be the DC-2 .

DOUGLAS DC-2
The DC-2 was born when TWA and Douglas decided to lengthen the fuselage of the DC-1 by 2ft , which added an additional row of seats and increased the passenger capacity to 14 . The first DC-2 took to the air on May 11 , 1934 , and proved that passenger air travel could be comfortable , safe , and reliable .
