comfort and amenities , Salerno- Costa D ’ Amalfi cannot be anything but a low-cost carrier airport . But GESAC revealed a very ambitious plan aimed at completely transforming the traveler experience within just a couple of years . The project involves the establishment of a completely new terminal on the site of the existing one by the end of 2026 .
While the new facility is being built , passenger operations will be handled inside a new VIP terminal , which is scheduled to open at the end of 2025 immediately north of the present one . Now , Italy , and Southern Italy in particular , are not exactly renowned for on-time completion of public projects , and completing two new terminals in an
equal number of years looks optimistic , to say the least .
Yet , the projects have been financed already . And the new passenger terminal slated to open its doors in two years will be a quantum leap from the existing one , with a surface of 16,000m 2 ( 172,000sq ft ), two floors ( arrivals on the ground floor , departures above ), a shopping gallery , Wi-Fi , a lounge , five jet bridges , and an initial capacity of 3.5 million passengers . The building will feature a roof recalling those of the limonaie , the lemon plantations typical of the Costiera Amalfitana .
When completed , the facility will be the first all-new airport terminal built in Italy since Bari Palese ( BRI ) in 2005 .

Salerno ’ s neighbor — and ( much ) bigger brother — Napoli Capodichino ( NAP ) is Italy ’ s fourth largest airport in point of traffic , behind Rome Fiumicino , Milan Malpensa and Bergamo Orio al Serio ( BGY ). In 2023 , it handled 12.4 million passengers , 13.5 % more than in 2022 . A trend that is continuing this year , with 5.8 million travelers between January and June .
The airport , situated southwest of the city center , just a few miles north of mount Vesuvium , the active volcano , is easyJet ’ s second Italian base , with eight airplanes , behind Malpensa and ahead of Venice , and a focus city for Ryanair , Volotea , and Wizzair ( W6 ).
14 The capacity will be 3.5 million passengers per year . Five boarding bridges will allow faster and more comfortable embarking and disembarking procedures . // GESAC
